What are the barometers

These products are not very diverse - in total there are four main types, we will tell in detail about each:

1. The mercury barometer was invented in the mid-17th century by the Italian physicist Evangelista Torricelli, who was a student of Galileo, and after his death became his successor at the department of the University of Florence. Two years after the teacher’s death in 1644, he proved the possibility of obtaining a void, later named after his last name Torricellieva, and invented the mercury barometer. Of course, that primitive design with mercury poured into a plate was not widely used, although it was very accurate. It has been proven that mercury vapor negatively affects the human body, but the principle of action is still used in special barometers at standard meteorological stations in different countries to ensure accurate weather control.
2. Liquid analogs are practically not used at present, because they differ in a rather large error and it will be problematic to monitor weather changes with their help. The liquid column at different temperatures does not behave identically, so large errors occur, and meteorologists need only accurate results. The most famous modification of a liquid barometer is a product with a flask, where colored glycerin is charged. It expands less from heat and has a very attractive decorative effect.
3. The most popular today is a mechanical barometer, because it is much more compact than the first two options and has great accuracy. Their main merit is that they are absolutely safe to use, albeit quite difficult to manufacture. The external case of the barometer, which is located on the wall, resembles a classic antique clock with a round dial. In retail, you can find simple desktop products with a rectangular case made of durable plastic. We have already told you the principle of operation, so we won’t repeat it, we only note that such devices are compact - the so-called pocket version, slightly larger in size - this is a desktop one, and then wall-mounted devices in which the case is made of polished acrylic or high-quality wood. 4. The fourth type is an electronic barometer; it belongs to very high-precision and compact instruments. A microprocessor with an electronic unit is necessarily present in the design, which provides processed data to a digital liquid crystal display.
