Quite often, it is necessary to trim material that is difficult to process. At the same time, the grinder (angle grinder) becomes the most indispensable tool. This device is capable of cutting a sheet of metal or stone in seconds.
Often these devices work from the network, but in some cases, a DIY grinder from a car battery can be useful. Such a tool has both its advantages and disadvantages.
Why do I need a grinder from a car battery?
Grinders with a built-in battery appeared in the assortment of stores relatively recently, but have already managed to win the sympathy of many buyers. However, the cost of the budget option itself starts at 4,000 rubles. On the one hand, this is little money, and on the other, it is important to remember that in a couple of years the battery will lose a significant part of the current. Purchasing a new battery is also expensive.
For this reason, many are thinking about how to independently assemble a grinder from an automotive power source. Such a tool can be used where there is no way to connect to a 220 V household network. At the same time, do not worry about purchasing a special battery for the grinder.
How to assemble a tool yourself?
Everyone who has the basic knowledge of electrical engineering and also has the right amount of materials can design a grinder that runs on a car battery. To create a homemade device you will need:
- PVC pipes and corners;
- an electric motor 775 or similar designed for a voltage of 12 V;
- cartridge for grinder;
- convenient push-button switch with normally open contacts;
- crocodile wires and clamps.
At the first stage, the case itself must be assembled from PVC parts. It consists of a corner in which an elongated piece of pipe is fixed with glue. At the corner, several holes must be made along the entire diameter. They are needed to cool the motor. Such a case turns out to be very light and quite durable.
Now it's time for a protective shield. It protects from flying sparks and serves as an electric motor fastener. As a shield, a 110 mm PVC plug is best suited. In it, in the center, holes are made for the protruding part of the motor with a shaft and fixing bolts. It is also necessary to trim part of the plug under the working area of the tool.
Further, the protection with the motor installed, to which the wires are connected in advance, is attached to the free edge of the corner. A hole for the switch is made in the handle from the pipe, and the connection of the power wires begins. To connect to the battery, it is better to use crocodile clips.
It remains only to fix the cartridge on the motor shaft and you can start working with a homemade tool.
Advantages and disadvantages
Such a device has both its indisputable positive sides, and has a number of minuses.
Advantages:
- the ability to work away from the household network;
- no need to purchase a special power source;
- ease of assembly and accessibility of parts;
- the weight of the tool is very small and the hands practically do not get tired during operation.
Disadvantages:
- significant difference in power with network-powered models;
- there are no additional mechanisms of protection against jamming, and also filters.
As you can see, the advantages of such an instrument are greater, especially since the last drawback is doubtful. Jamming protection in such a device is not much needed, and you can create a filter yourself if you wish.
