A few hours ago, Apple's presentation ended at the Steve Jobs Theater. As expected, it showed new generations of smart watches and smartphones of the company, announced the start of their sales and talked about innovations.
Apple Watch Series 4
The design has remained virtually unchanged: it is still a watch with a rectangular form factor, however, the case has become a little thinner and its golden design has appeared. Of the notable innovations, the screen is also worth mentioning: it is now not just square: its corners are rounded, the dimensions have also increased for both versions. The microphone was placed on the right side, and the speaker became louder, and now it is better suited for phone calls and walkie talkies.
Of the iron novelties, it is worth noting the accelerated S4 chip, which works twice as fast as its predecessor. The watch is equipped with Bluetooth fifth version, LTE and lives on battery a little longer. As for the accelerometer, it can now detect a person’s fall and start an automatic call for emergency services. It can be canceled within a minute. He is also able to distinguish acrobatics and the location in bed from falling.
The main working screen has been improved. Now it can be customized: in the corners there are special fields where various widgets with useful information are placed. You can also choose the most suitable Watch Face: beautiful or functional. There are presets for travelers, athletes and people who are actively monitoring their health.
The Digital Crown ring now has a physical response. It is simulated using the Taptic Engine. The possibility of active monitoring of the pulse has appeared: if it is very different from the normal value, the watch will display a notification. Holding Figital Crown can not only measure the pulse, but also create an electrocardiogram, which will be very useful for athletes and cores.
Pre-order for a new watch starts on September 14, the cost will be $ 499 for the version with the Cellular module, the version with GPS will cost $ 100 cheaper. Shipments will begin on September 21. By then, watchOS 5 will be available: it will be implemented on September 17th.
Apple iPhone
A September apple presentation without a new generation of iPhone would be weird. Traditionally, the new generation of Cupertin's devices got the S index in the name, but a budget option appeared - iPhone XR. It’s worth starting with a description of common features, but not many. The first is the number of SIM cards. All new products support two SIMs, only one of them is electronic, and for the Chinese market they will offer a version with two physical cards. In addition, Dual Standby is supported.
The new iPhones repeat the design idea of the previous iPhone X: a cutout from above, minimal frames on the sides and a glass back panel. The similarities, oddly enough, do not end there: all three iPhoone 2019 models received an improved Apple A12 Bionic processor, which is 15% faster than its predecessor. This is the first 7nm processor on the market. His graphics, by the way, are 50% faster than the previous generation. Now about the differences.
Apple iPhone XR
It is significantly different from the two older brothers, at least in the case. Yes, there are common features, but here the frame is not made of stainless steel, there are more design colors, the degree of protection is only IP67, and the camera is just one. It, by the way, was borrowed from the iPhone 8, although during the presentation a lot of words “New”, “Incredible” and all that sounded.
Presented iPhone XR will be in options for 64, 128 and 256 gigabytes, and the cost starts at $ 749. It will be possible to buy it only in October: on the 19th the pre-order starts, and on the 24th the shipment of serial devices begins.
Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
The old branding, apparently, the Cupertinians did not like, which is why they decided to call the larger version XS Max instead of Plus. By the way, the dimensions of the 8 Plus and XS Max are almost the same, although the latter is equipped with a 6.5-inch display. The 5.8-inch XS has an OLED screen, just like the big brother.The cutout in the upper part has not gone away, but the frames around the screen have become much smaller.
Both models finally got a golden color, which Johnny Ive said with great pride, being the voiceover of the presentation video. In addition, the stainless steel and glass housing received a degree of protection against dust and moisture according to IP68. This means that it can be dipped up to 3 meters under the surface of the liquid, and it can be cola, freshly squeezed juice, the ocean or a simple pool.
Camera. She, as they said at the presentation, got better. Algorithms improved, artificial intelligence began to work more adequately, an adjustable diaphragm appeared. The latter is a very cool feature: now, after saving the image, you can choose the degree of blurring the background on it, adjusting the virtual aperture. And this despite the fact that the camera is not much different from last year in the physical sense (the same 12 + 12 megapixels, under the glasses F / 1.8 and F / 2.4.
There is a new mode - Smart HDR. He takes a more voluminous series of shots and glues them, pulling parts with high and low expositions. During his work, a trillion operations are performed on the resulting image. Video is recorded in the same formats as before: 4k @ 60FPS, 1080p @ 60fps, 720p @ 240fps. The image stabilization has improved, due to which night pictures are obtained much better.
The volume of new batteries left a mystery, but promised to increase the duration for the regular XS by 30 minutes, and for the Plus version by an hour and a half. There will be three versions: 64, 256 or 512 gigabytes, and prices start at $ 999 for 5.8 inches and $ 1099 for the 6.5-inch version.
Sales start with pre-orders: as early as September 14th. Shipments will begin only 21 numbers. The Russian market will see the new product no earlier than the 28th. IOS 12 can be installed on Monday, September 17th.
