Back in March 2015, according to rumors, Samsung was working on a curved smartphone with a flexible display. Then the official representative of the Samsung Display unit said that the commercialization of folding smartphones “will be possible” in 2016. This prediction, of course, did not come true, but the noise around the flexible Samsung smartphone remained.

And so, Samsung received a patent for a folding gaming smartphone. According to various versions, the smartphone will be able to expand into a 7-inch tablet, probably with an OLED screen. The device will have several bending options. In one folded state, only the screen will be located on the external panel, in another - the G-pad and six buttons will become available, which the user can use not only for entertainment.

Samsung aims to produce smartphones with a flexible display and will launch this product when all the problems are solved, of which, experts say, there may be many. Folding screens contain several components, and manufacturers must find a way to avoid breaking the connections that their most active users will expose. Displays should also retain their bright colors, which they will not be able to do if a thin protective layer (unlike the thick, hard glass of ordinary smartphones) will let water vapor and oxygen through. And then the problem arises of making it all work in the context of mass production, in which it is difficult to maintain attention to every detail.
