We are used to the fact that rugged smartphones often look prim and even ridiculous. Manufacturers of such devices try to pay maximum attention to a reliable and durable case. In this case, the characteristics and appearance fade into the background. But Nomu decided to make a difference by launching the S50 Pro. It is this smartphone that came to our review. And looking ahead, we can say that this protected device looks really intriguing.

Equipment
The device is sold in a faceless cardboard box. A smartphone is hidden under a modest shell, as well as a microUSB cable, a clip, charging, documentation. Such a set can be called quite standard for today.
Design
At first glance at the Nomu S50 Pro, a clear rectangular case with an abundance of straight lines and beveled corners catches your eye. Black color is adjacent to orange decorative inserts. On the front, it is completely covered with safety glass. There is a FullView-display with small side frames and indents from the bottom and top. All buttons for navigation are on the screen itself. The back cover is relatively thick, although this is a common thing for rugged phones. Everything you need here is concentrated in the upper part: a square fingerprint scanner, a main camera lens and a powerful flash. The orange insert has a textured anti-slip coating.

The lateral ends got reinforced metal plates with screw fastening. On the right side you can see the volume rocker, as well as the power button, made of anodized aluminum. On the left, there is not only a slot for SIM and microSD cards, but also a custom button, which is programmable. The upper end has a headphone jack, covered with a plug. The lower edge has a microphone, multimedia speaker and a USB Type-C connector with a dummy for better protection.

The IP68 moisture and dust protection class makes it possible to immerse the smartphone in water to a depth of one meter, and the military standard MIL-STD-810G ensures that the device does not break if it is hit or dropped. Ergonomics are well developed here, the device is really nice to hold in your hands. It looks modern and stylish, although remotely it still resembles a brick. Available colors: black and orange. Dimensions: weight - 250 g, height - 159.5 mm, thickness - 14.3 mm, width - 77.5 mm.

Display
The device has a 5.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels. Here the S-IPS matrix is used, which stands out for its fast response. The 18: 9 aspect ratio makes the display a little elongated, in line with fashion trends. Supports up to 5 simultaneous touches. It should be noted a high level of contrast and wide viewing angles. The white balance is a little frustrating, which is rapidly turning into cold tones, but the expanded brightness range is pleasantly surprising, this allows you to use the gadget with special comfort at night or on sunny days. Screen calibration is not the best, but some parameters can be adjusted independently.

Performance
Nomu S50 Pro got a very decent processor MediaTek Helio P23 with such a frequency of 1500 MHz and eight cores. If we talk about the code name, then we are talking about the MT6763V chip. The amount of RAM is 4 GB. The volume of the built-in file storage is 64 GB. If necessary, free space is expanded by microSD memory cards with a capacity of up to 128 GB. There is a 3D graphics accelerator Mali-G71 MP2. It houses a massive rechargeable battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh. A full charge lasts for several days of easy use. The battery is charged with a standard adapter in two hours. Out of the box, the user can use the Android 8.1 operating system.
AntTu test Smartphone S50 Pro is very confident, gaining about 75,000 points. Geekbench 4.3: single-core mode - 820 points, multi-core mode - 2730 points. The device easily copes with the launch of many applications. The following situation arises with games: demanding toys work at medium or low graphics settings with a normal frame rate, and projects operate more simply without any brakes.
Camera
The S50 Pro has a 16-megapixel main camera with a bright LED flash. Unfortunately, autofocus is very slow, so getting clear pictures will be problematic. A good result is possible only on a bright day, and when the weather conditions worsen or in the evening, the photo quality drops sharply. You can use the HDR mode, as well as some functions. The front houses an 8-megapixel front camera that supports face recognition technology.

Sound
Users will certainly appreciate the sound of an external speaker. With the TFA9890 NXP amplifier, the melodies sound really loud and clear, but there is clearly not enough bass. Listening to music with headphones is quite comfortable, as the sound is not only clear and detailed, but also loud. The spoken speaker deserves good words.

Price
At the start of sales, the price of the smartphone was about $ 250. Now it can be purchased in China for 200-230 dollars. This cost is more than justified, given the capabilities of the device.
